Tinea infections (athlete's foot, nail fungus, ringworm etc) affect feet, nails and many other areas of the skin. Tinea infections are caused by dermatophyte fungi. Different species have predilections for different body sites (major causative organisms include Epidermophyton, Microsporum and Trichophyton).
Tinea capitis (scalp ringworm) has carriage rates of 12-47% in some London schools, and the global incidence of Tinea pedis (athletes foot) is >25%. Nail fungus affects as many as 12% of the developed world's population.
Luminaderm compounds demonstrate in vitro antifungal activity against Tinea-causing Trichophyton organisms.
